PRESS RELEASE - BUILDING SOLIDARITY IN THE FACE OF VIOLENCE - BRIGHTON DELEGATION RETURN FROM PALESTINE

Monday, November 5th, 2007

All of the ten people who have just returned from a delegation to Palestine from the Brighton-Tubas Solidarity Group, have their own unique stories to tell. In their two week visit they’ve been shot at, arrested, and discovered that produce grown on stolen Palestinian land and using child labour, is being sold in British supermarkets including Tesco’s.  One delegate said, “Although it was often shocking, these events are part of daily life in Palestine and the people we met were full of friendship despite their situation.”   (more…)

PRESS RELEASE - PALESTINIAN FARMERS DENIED ACCESS TO THEIR OLIVE TREES

Friday, October 26th, 2007

In Taybe, in the Jenin district of the occupied West Bank, farmers and their international supporters were unable to reach their olive trees once again today as the Israeli authorities failed to open the access gate through the Israeli apartheid wall. 75% of people in Palestine are economically dependent on the olive harves. At each yearly harvest the Israeli occupation authorities deny Palestinians access to their land to pick their olives and directly threaten their livelihoods.

Tree Planting in the Jordan Valley

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

On Thursday our delegation went to a farm to lead an action, with the help of local farmers to plant some trees. We donated 20 trees (18 olive, 1 fig and 1 lemon) in an act of solidarity and passive resistance. The planting of these trees felt amazing, particularly as there were so many meanings linked to the trees. Olive and fig trees have been grown in Palestine for thousands of years and have come to represent the Palestinian cause and way of life. Further, by planting the trees the farmer was showing the Israelis that he planned to stay on the land for many years - a sign of permanence if you like. We also named many of the trees after friends, people and children we had met and figures of importance in the Palestine Solidarity Movement. It is nice to think that the trees will not only help the farmer but also provide a lasting memorial for the delegation. (more…)

Al Haq - The Jordan Valley, Land and Self-Determination

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

*30 March 2007*

Al-Haq takes the occasion of Land Day to highlight the intrinsic link between land and the exercise of the right to self-determination. Over nearly 40 years of occupation, Israel’s pervasive policies of land expropriation and confiscation, settlement construction and movement restrictions have severely damaged the access of the Palestinian people to their land in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), thereby rendering the meaningful exercise of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination all but impossible.
