Threatened Communities
The Jordan Valley is an area under urgent threat of annexation by Israel. Because of its fertile land and geographical location, it is already 95% under Israeli Military control and heavily exploited by the 36 illegal settlements based there. Militarised zones ensure that the Jordan Valley’s Palestinian population is more or less isolated from the rest of the West Bank.
The Palestinian villages in the Jordan Valley exist under constant pressure from the expanding settlements which surround most of their homes. In what amounts to an attempt to ethnically cleanse the area, Israel frequently issues demolition orders for entire Palestinian villages, most of whom have lived there for generations, with the Bedouin communities most at risk.
The Brighton Tubas Friendship and Solidarity Group’s threatened communities group aims to work with as many of those threatened villages as possible. Often the most disastrous actions take place silently in “anonymous” places. By assembling essential information and facts on the ground and publicising urgent issues as they happen, the threatened communities group try to aid the putting of those places on the map. To date our members have worked with, amongst others, Al Hadidya, Al Jifflik, Al Farisiya, Firoush Beit Dejan and Fasayil.
We are constantly working to expand our information about threatened villages and communities in the Jordan Valley. This is a collaborative effort and anyone who has information or photos relating to the area are strongly encouraged to get in touch.
