Petition to the Palestinian Council of Ministers re Settlement Goods

We, the undersigned, welcome your decision, made on June 16th 2009, calling for a ban on the sale of settlement produce in Palestinian markets. We commit to support this call by strengthening the international movement for a boycott of all goods from illegal Israeli settlements.

The Council of Ministers (CoM) called on the Palestinian Ministry of National Economy and all relevant bodies to take responsibility for implementing the 2005 Decision of the Council of Ministers Concerning the Prohibition of the Entry of Goods Produced, Manufactured or Packaged in Settlements into the Palestinian Market. The Decision prohibits the entry of settlement products to Palestinian markets. In addition, the CoM appealed to citizens, civil society organizations, the private sector and national committees to cooperate with official departments to implement the 2005 Decision. In particular, the CoM called on the media and the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education to launch a campaign to promote Palestinian products and reject settlement products, as they represent a loss of Palestinian national income. Settlement products have also been a source of spoiled food supplies distributed in Palestinian markets. The CoM commended institutions that have already stopped stocking settlement products, and encourages others to do the same. It further urged third parties, both governments and their citizens, to take concrete steps consistent with international law and with the international consensus against settlements, including by working towards a ban of settlement goods from markets everywhere.
