    Life in the Kazaya area of Al Jiftlik has never been easy. When I first visited the area in 2007 the future for the community there looked bleak. A house belonging to a newly married couple had recently been demolished and rubble was covering large parts of the ground, whilst there were demolition orders in place on several further structures.

    In Brighton we have now raised £4,400 of the £5000 we have committed to donate to the project. Thanks to everyone who has organised fundraising and made donations.

    The Zoba community are withstanding Israel's attempts to remove them from their land with community action and resilience.

    If you had come in here in 2007, you would have found a village destroyed, with just one house left standing - surrounded by rubble evidencing the remains of all the homes, and the water well, demolished by the Israelis.

    Demonstrators dressed as Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King visited the village of Bil In today (05/03/2010) to mark the beginning of Israeli Apartheid Week. Over a hundred people marched to the gate of Israel's apartheid wall separating the village from its land.

    In the last few years the Jordan Valley Solidarity project has rebuilt or renovated over a hundred houses in the valley. Palestinians living in area C are prevented from building permanent structures by the Israeli Civil Military administration. These regulations are enforced by house demolitions.

    Emad, a student from Al Quds Open University in Tubas, had been invited to the University of Sussex to meet with students and speak about conditions for students living under occupation in the West Bank.

    However, the UK consulate refused his visa application on the grounds that he is an ex-prisoner.

    At 5pm on 14th February the Israeli army closed Al Hamra checkpoint, arested two Palestinian men, forced them to strip, blindfolded them, then made them walk down the road in front of queues of people and stand in stress positions.

    Now that Jordan Valley Solidarity has become solidly established amongst the local Palestinian community, and recognised by many international NGO's, it is challenging Israel's attempts to intimidate and remove the Palestinians on a daily basis.
